Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, tightens the muscles of the stomach wall and removes excess abdominal skin and fat to create a firmer and flatter waistline. Dr. Clark performs abdominoplasty to help patients achieve a slimmer and more attractive abdomen, especially those who have undergone pregnancy or major weight loss.
- Are non-smokers
- Are physically healthy
- Have a positive outlook
- Have realistic expectations and goals
- Have loose, weakened stomach muscles that do not properly engage
- Have excess, hanging abdominal skin
- Have been unsuccessful in their attempts to eliminate stubborn abdominal fat with a healthy diet and exercise
To perform the procedure, Dr. Clark will make a horizontal incision along your lower abdomen between the hips. After separating the skin and underlying tissues from the abdominal muscle wall, Dr. Clark will tighten the abdominal muscles to improve their definition and shape. He will then remove excess skin and stubborn fat to create a narrower waistline. The entire procedure may take up to three hours and is performed with the patient under general anesthesia.
Recovery and Results
Patients will need lots of rest during the first two weeks after tummy tuck surgery. Bruising, soreness, and swelling are common and may last for several weeks. Light exercise, such as periodic 10 to 15-minute walks, will help to improve circulation during recovery. Most patients will feel well enough to resume work within 10 to 14 days after the procedure. Additional exercises should be introduced gradually, and strenuous physical activities should be avoided for six to 12 weeks. Many (if not all) stretch marks on the abdomen are typically eliminated with abdominoplasty. The incision scar can be hidden by clothing and will fade over time. The results of tummy tuck surgery are generally permanent if patients avoid pregnancy and maintain a healthy body weight. Abdominoplasty can give patients the slender and firm waistline they desire.
